September's Cushion Workshop

This was the last of the three cushion workshops covering a range of techniques. This month we looked at cathedral windows/secret garden - the faux technique - covered buttons and machine made buttonholes.

As usual, we ran out of time and the planned samples of the traditional cathedral window technique will now be included as a mini tutorial in our 2016 programme.

A few photos from today then of the cushions in progress. Our next monthly meeting is planned as a show-and-tell so, hopefully, the cushions will be finished by then.

August's meeting

This month a few folk were unable to come due to holidays and the like, however we pressed on with our mini tutorial on basting and managed to fit in a tiny show-and-tell ahead of next month's planned one.

Some hadn't seen them before (or couldn't recall!) so Heather showed off the two quilts she exhibited at Layer Marney recently.

Tina's baby quilt will have gone to its new home by our September meeting.

Tina's also finished the quilt she made from the fabrics dyed at a recent Indigo Shibori summer school with Janice Gunner (no photo available).

And Shirley has finished the cushion she started at the last workshop adding a pieced backing.

We're all looking forward to next month's meeting as we're hosting a Region 8 Coffee Evening, and it's a 'big' show-and-tell.

July's Cushion Workshop

The agenda for this month's workshop included 'disappearing blocks' as the basis for our cushions, finished with an Oxford edge and a lapped zip closure, all techniques group members wanted to learn how to do.

No photos were taken at the workshop. Many of the cushion covers were 'almost there', but not quite, so photos will follow in due course of the finished items (no pressure ladies!!!)

This is the first of the finished cushion covers, the centre panel being a variation of a 'disappearing 9-patch' block. It now has one of those nice plump 45cm cushions pads in it from that nice Swedish store.

Also in June.....

For the second year, we supported the local village fayre. What promised to be a scorcher last Sunday turned wet and cold just as we finished setting up and only turned nice again around 3pm when we ventured to roll up one side of the gazebo. So, a bit of a slow start and although the visitor numbers did increase, I'm sure more would have ventured out had the weather stayed nice all day.

Anyway, we were pretty pleased with the stall, and there were a few sales so at least the table cost was covered.

Here are a few photos. As you will see, lots of lovely hand-made items, and not all patchwork and quilting.
