Secret Santa - part 2

Here are a few more of the postcards (you will have seen some of them last time).

And the tree decorations (sorry, a panorama style photo would have been better!)

Lovely work ladies!

Happy Christmas.

Secret Santa - part 1

The first batch of postcards in the Secret Santa postcard swap have arrived looking pretty fabulous and festive. I think this could become a regular event!

Looking forward to part two of the postcard swap and the Secret Santa tree decorations at our next meeting.

November's Show & Tell

There were quite a few apologies for last night's meeting. Nevertheless, lovely projects were brought to show-and-tell, including some of the bowls and boxes made at last Saturday's workshop.

Jewellery Making

Something different, for us last night, but useful to know how - you never know when it might come in handy!

One of our group members makes jewellery and she agreed to show us all how. So armed with what must have been thousands of beads in all shapes, sizes and colours, a couple of sets of pliers and some samples for inspiration, we set to.

Here are our efforts, a selection of earrings and memory wire bracelets.

Next month, we'll returning our thoughts to Christmas decorations.

Scraps & Till Rolls

The idea of today's workshop was to make a dent in our scrap bags by using till rolls to foundation piece long strips ready to use for piecing, borders etc at a later date.

Certainly, everyone got the hang of the technique and drawing a selection of patterns, piecing several strips to use or keep as a reference for the future. Not so sure that it made a big dent in the scrap bags though!!!!!

More Linus Quilts

Twenty six lovely quilts all checked, labelled, photographed and ready to be donated to the children's ward at our local hospital.

These bring the total to about 60 quilts this year - a fabulous effort! Many thanks to those who have made and continue to make quilts for this good cause.

Dabble Day

Today was the long-awaited dabble day, a chance to try:

  • microwave dyeing
  • marbling with shaving foam
  • Thermofax screens
  • Gelli printing
  • wooden print blocks
  • Inkense pencils and paint sticks
  • Markal sticks
  • stamping

A very well attended day with about 8m of fabric dyed and plenty of other pieces stamped, printed, coloured etc.

The dyed fabrics have been taken home to rinse out so we'll have to wait to see them. Meanwhile, here's everything else. It'll be interesting too see how these pieces are used.

And these two are interesting. The 'dregs' of the marbling foam scraped over stencils with some very nice results. You do have to pick out the best 'dregs' though and avoid the sludge.

A fab day enjoyed by all.

Retreat 2017

Eat/drink, sew, eat/drink, sew, eat/drink, sew, sleep (repeat)!

Just back from our 2017 retreat, very well fed, very tired but feeling very accomplished.

The (optional) theme this year was a layer cake project. There were several of these, plus assorted other projects, some completed over the weekend, others with the quilt top made and the finishing off to be done later on. And, one of last year's retreat quilts was finally bound!

Feast your eyes on these.

Log Cabins with Attitude

I wonder what this little lot will end up as? In quilts, table runners, cushions bags? A fab selection of blocks made yesterday in a Log Cabin with Attitude workshop with Janice Gunner.
